Obasanjo places order for made-in-Aba shoes




Former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo has encouraged the purchase of indigenous products by placing an order for made-in-Aba shoes. Obasanjo placed the order for the shoes during the 2016 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Forum in Lagos, Daily Post reports. Speaking as one of the panelist at the forum, Obasanjo commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for promoting indigenous products. “Governor, I listened to you and I commend you for what you’re doing in Abia. Please keep doing what you’ve told us you’re doing,” he said. Ikpeazu, who serves as the marketing officer of made-in-Aba product said Aba remains the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) capital of Nigeria, where young Nigerians were engaged in the business of making of shoes, clothing and other products. The Abia state governor added that a firm that had an order to supply up to 50,000 military boots was currently in Aba, where Aba shoemakers were making the production. Ikpeazu said: “I am happy to announce here that Aba which is the commercial nerve centre of the Abia State and Old Eastern Region of Nigeria, is also the SME capital of Nigeria, where young people are in the business of making shoes, bags and clothes, including the one I am wearing. “Let me also announce here that a private firm, that has an order to supply 50,000 military boots is currently in Aba, where our shoemakers are in production for the firm.” below are some of the shoes made in Aba: Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Meanwhile, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has gone hard on the federal government over proposed increase of the N18,000 minimum wage. Speaking to Vanguard, the president of NLC Ayuba Wabba called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to abandon the union’s request. Wabba said the increase in the minimum wage is the logic used by the United States of America to address recession.

JUST IN: TRIBUNAL DISMISSES DR. ARDO's PETITION AGAINST FINTIRI

  Adamawa State Governorship Electoral Petitions Tribunal on Monday, dismissed the petition filed by Dr. Umar Ardo Ardo against Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. The Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party(SDP), Dr. Umar Ardo, his Deputy, Amos Yusuf and SDP filed a petition challenging the governorship election conducted by INEC on the 18th March, 2023. Dr. Ardo, in his petition instituted on the 8th May, 2023 had joined INEC, Fintiri and 16 others as respondents, alleging that the election was not conducted in substantial compliance with the electoral act. The petitioners further alleged that the exercise conducted by the 1st respondent was marred by corrupt practices(bribery), threats and violence and however sought the nullification of the entire exercise. On their part, 1st to 4th respondents, told the tribunal that the petition is statue barred which cannot be entertained by tribunal, alleging that the petition is not supported with evidence and not filed in compliance

TROOPS OF OPERATION UDO KA II CLEARED IPOB/ESN CAMPS... recovers fresh and old corpses

Troops of Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA II on Sunday, 1 October 2023 cleared 4 notorious camps of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and it's armed affiliates the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Ihube, Aku and Umulolo in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.  During the clearance operation troops encountered many Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) enroute the camps. However, due to superior firepower, the irredentist fled into neighbouring forests with Gun Shot Wounds. It was discovered that the camps were being used to perpetuate atrocities such as cannibalism, occultic practices and ritual killings to instil fears into the law abiding citizens. These were evident from many fresh and old corpses discovered while clearing the entire camps.
