APC factional chairman kicks as police disrupts Kwankwaso’s event

Dozens of armed policemen yesterday stormed the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research and Training, Mambayya House, Kano, and disrupted an event organized by Kwankwasiyya Foundation.
Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, former Kano governor is the founder and leader of the movement.
The police, it was gathered, dispersed members of the Kwankwasiyya and sealed the venue.
The incident occurred just days after Kano State APC constituted a committee to reconcile factions and aggrieved top chieftains of the party.
Kwankwasiyya member, Alhaji Sanusi Surajo Kwankwaso, told Daily Trust that the group was forced to shift the proceedings to Lugard House, owned by Kwankwaso.
He explained that the event was organised to honor some of the students sponsored by Kwankwaso-led government to study abroad under the 2011/2015 education programme.
Reacting, factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, described the police action as misuse of power.
Doguwa said: “There is a Supreme Court judgment which clarified the issue of seeking permission from police before embarking on any public meeting, so police had no right to stop us from exercising our right.
“I want to categorically state that no amount of intimidation on the part of police will deter us from exercising our civic rights as Nigerians. Kwankwasiyya is our ideology and nobody can force us to drop it”.
