Gambian president attacks Buhari, others for declaring war against his government

Despite the appeal by ECOWAS for ousted Gambian president, Yahya Jammeh, to step down from his post after losing the last election in the country, he has failed to do same.
In fact, the president, in his New Year Day speech, accused the West African regional body of declaring war against his government by putting troops on alert.
Adama Barrow, Jammeh's closest rival, had defeated him during the December 1 presidential elections in the country, but the latter has stated that he would do all he can to hold his country against any form of attacks.
Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari who was in Gambia to play a 'big brother' role alongside other African leaders, is now being accused of plotting to overthrow the president.
Jammeh noted on January 1, 2017, that “the resolution of ECOWAS on the current situation to implement the results of December 1, 2016 presidential election by whatever means possible.”
“It is in effect a declaration of war and an insult to our constitution.
“Let me make it very clear that we are ready to defend this country against any aggression.
“My government will never opt for such confrontation but defending our sovereignty is a sacred duty for all patriotic Gambians."
