Ondo CJ Gladys Olateru-Olagbegi dies

The immediate past Chief Judge of Ondo state, Gladys Olateru-Olagbegi, is dead.
The Nigerian Tribune reports that Olateru-Olagbegi died in the night of Sunday, January 1, 2016 after battling with an undisclosed illness.

Details of her death were sketchy at the time of this report, but a source was reported as describing the death of the former chief judge as shocking.
The source however failed to give details of her death, saying an official statement would be released by her family.
Justice Olateru-Olagbegi handed over to Olasehinde Kumuyi of the state High Court as the new CJ.
Little sketches of her history show that she was born into the Omitowoju family in Ile Ife, Osun state and was married into the Olagbegi family, a royal family in Owo Ondo state Nigeria.
The late CJ attended the University of London where she received a bachelor and doctorate degree in Law and was called to the England bar in 1973 as well as the Nigerian bar in 1974.
She was appointed to the bench of a high court judge of Ondo state judiciary and in 2003, she became the Chief Judge of the state, a capacity in which she served for seven years before she retired on October 26, 2010.
The Ondo state government led by Olusegun Mimiko was yet to make an official announcement at the time of this report.

Kano university students riot after local life savers failed to save drowning student

Students of Kano State University of Science and Technology, KUST Wudil on Wednesday rioted and barricaded Wudil-Gaya road in Kano State. DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the riot was sparked by alleged failure of the school authorities to save the life of a drowning student.   Adamawa State Governorship Electoral Petitions Tribunal on Monday, dismissed the petition filed by Dr. Umar Ardo Ardo against Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
