Prepare for a 'Biafra' referendum IPOB tells members

- The Indigenous People of Biafra has called on all its members to prepare for a referendum
- The group said it does not need the permission of any government or state to obtain its natural freedom
- The group also urged all said Biafrans to be aware of their right under the international law and to decide their fate as a people through referendum.
IPOB called on all its members in Nigeria and Diaspora to get ready for a forthcoming referendum
The IPOB has called on its members to prepare for a referendum to the freedom of Bifara.
In a statement by the spokesperson of the IPOB Powerful Emma, the group said it is working effortlessly to restore its long lost freedom and political independence without violence.
“We Biafrans in pursuit our inalienable, irreducible and God given right to restore our stolen sovereignty do hereby state that we do not require the permission of the Nigerian State or her government officials to grant us our natural freedoms,” IPOB said.
“However, we are advising Biafrans both home and Diaspora to be prepared for the forth coming referendum to decide whether we want to be an independent sovereign entity away from Nigeria or not,” the group said.
The group also said Biafrans must be aware of their right under the international law to decide their fate as a people through referendum.
“Scotland have also exercised this right to self determination and so have the Quebec region in Canada. If these nations populated by humans like we Biafrans can exercise this right, so can we.
“The organs of the region are the people designated to call a referendum for independence of Biafra and will have partners, not the Nigerian government, but the United Nations U.N, who will have the mandate to monitor the referendum processes and ensure compliance with the will so expressed.
IPOB also said for the freedom of Biafra to stand Biafrans must decide to adopt an option of self rule snatched away from them by the British people.
“For as long as Biafra remains a part of Nigeria, Biafrans will remain forever slaves in their own land.
“More so, the right to self determination is always implemented through a referendum with the participation of all residents in the land.
“This path has also been implemented recently by South Sudan, Greenland, Kosovo, Albania, East Timor, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro among others.
“In all these newly created countries, their citizens voted in a referendum with international monitoring bodies, which ensured the validity of the votes cast. The same referendum can also be conducted in Biafraland and monitored by the international observers,” the group said.
